Small Changes, Big Difference

Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference

— By Elena Michaels PhD, CCH, LMFT

Small changes can make a big difference.  Trying to make big changes is often difficult and when we see we cannot follow through on those big changes, we tend to give up, slipping back to the old, familiar (and dysfunctional) way of doing things.

Maxwell Maltz wrote his classic book, “Psycho-Cybernetics” in 1960.  I read this book at a young age, fascinated by the idea of adjusting one’s direction and intention just slightly and arriving at an entirely different destination.

Think of someone close to you with whom you have a difficult relationship.  What do you say to yourself about this person?  What if you stopped saying anything about this person that was critical or judgmental?  What if you accepted them and thought of sending love to them whenever you thought about them?  Try it…it’s like magic and you will be amazed.

Think about yourself.  What do you say when you look at yourself in the mirror?  My guess is that you don’t say very nice things.  The words we use create our reality.  Everything we experience is filtered through the lens of our own perception. What if that lens and our perception could be changed?  (It can.)

How about making small changes in the way you take care of your body…your temple…the home of your consciousness and spirit.  Do you abuse it by the words you use, the food you eat and/or the substances you take into your body?  What if one small change could make a huge difference?  (It can.)

Everything is connected to everything else.  When we adjust our energy even slightly, we can go to a “different place”.  We have the power – we have the choice – to use our words to create our reality.  Realizing this and recognizing how we are creating what we DON’T want and what we CAN do to create the world we DO want, is very empowering.  It is also exciting, energizing and rewarding.

Give yourself the gift of the power of your own mind to create the life you truly desire!
