Balance Your Body to Reach Your Ideal Weight

Balance Your Body To Reach Your Ideal Weight

— By Elena Michaels, PhD, CCH, LMFT

“Every year Americans spend 33 billion dollars on
weight loss, with an estimated 95% failure rate!”

— U.S. Office of Consumer Affairs

As a holistic psychotherapist and nutritional therapist, I frequently see the damaging effects of carrying excess weight physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.  The loss of confidence, self-esteem, sensuality, health and the subtle erosion of relationships, including that most important relationship with self, is apparent and manifests in many ways.

Most (although not all) people who are overweight feel badly about themselves.  Because they feel disempowered and out of control, they continue to abuse themselves with food.  Food cravings undermine maintaining ideal weight and the overweight person feels deprived on several levels.  That emptiness is fed with more food, most often unhealthy, nutritionally-devoid foods and the vicious, never-ending cycle continues.  Weight is lost and gained again, with one’s self-esteem sinking deeper and deeper each time the cycle repeats.

Because of the kind of work I do, I am always receiving information about new products and I feel it is my responsibility to research and keep abreast of the latest developments being made in the fields of health, wellness, and peak performance.  I owe this to my clients and to myself.

My orientation and goal, is to do what I can to assist this process, utilizing whatever methods I am aware of.  When the body is in balance, it can heal itself.  I have experienced this myself and have seen it happen repeatedly.

If you are interested in assisting your body to move back into it’s ideal weight or to possibly achieve your ideal weight for the first time, investigate further!  If you are interested in reducing stress, getting a good night’s sleep, or not not getting the results you want, investigate further!  There is always a reason for these symptoms and concerns and it is not as simple as “eat less and exercise more”.  You may not know what that reason is, but there is often an underlying metabolic imbalance contributing to weight gain and the inability to lose it.

Proper food choices and exercise are always a healthy component to assisting weight loss but if the weight still won’t come don’t stop until you find out why and then make the changes and adjustments you need to balance your body.  It takes patience and perseverance to figure out where the body is out of balance and needing some assistance but when you get those answers you have been looking for, it’s like the clouds have parted and the rays of the sun are shining through!  (I know that sounds pretty dramatic but that is what one of my clients said it felt like so I thought I would share that image!)

More than 75% of Americans who are currently overweight, really do want to feel more empowered and in control of their lives.  The problem is that they give up, feel defeated and hopeless because they cannot figure out why the weight is not coming off.  If you are one of these people, there is hope. There is help.  Find someone who is well-trained and can help you in understanding your own physiological imbalances so your body and start to work well for you…instead of against you.
