Losing Sleep, Depressed, Anxious, Overweight, or Unable to Focus
— By Elena Michaels PhD, CCH, LMFT
All of these symptoms can manifest if our neurotransmitters are out of balance and stress contributes to that imbalance. When our NTs are out of balance everything else is, too. We may be overweight (abdominal fat creates additional undesirable imbalances in our body), feeling anxious, depressed and unable to sleep, not as sharp mentally, having inflammatory conditions and other symptoms. These are NOT “aging” or “getting older”; these are warnings from our bodies letting us know we need to make changes!
State of the art neurotransmitter testing is reasonably priced, non-invasive and done at home. Saliva and urine specimens are collected and sent to a lab. Specific, individual, very effective non-drug protocols are created. Neurotransmitter receptors can be “rebuilt” and we can function more effectively. If imbalances are not addressed, chronic, degenerative disease may be next.
Thyroid dysfunction is very prevalent, especially in women. The thyroid cannot function well if our NTs are out of balance. Temporary relief may be found with thyroid medication but often the thyroid remains unstable, continually creating symptoms such as fatigue, mood issues, focus issues, weight issues, blood sugar issues and even cholesterol and lipid issues.
If you or someone you know just hasn’t felt “like themselves” or if you or someone you know is dealing with unresolved physiological issues, getting a neurotransmitter test would be a smart move. These tests (which can also be done for children and adolescents as well) provide important information not available to us in any other way. This is often the “missing link” in understanding and addressing our problematic symptoms. .
With this new technology there is hope and options are available. Our body’s “Communication System” can be repaired and optimal health can be achieved. Working with a clinician trained in this new testing and implementation may be the key to regaining youthful vitality and/or bringing balance back into your life.
